Why Are My Hips So Tight?

  • Getting a massage: People whose hip tightness comes in the aftermath of a surgery or injury may experience tension as a result of scar tissue. Massaging can break up scar tissue and increase the flow of blood and nutrients to the affected area, thereby decreasing pain and relaxing rigid muscles.
  • See a physical therapist: Your hip troubles may be the result of harmful motion patterns, an accident or injury, a sedentary lifestyle, or something else entirely.
